WW2 M18 57mm Recoilless Rifle with Sight and Tripod.
The M18 Recoilless Rifle used a British development in which the cartridge case had hundreds of small holes in the side walls with a lining of plastic on the inside of the cartridge case walls to keep water and other elements out until the round was fired. The idea was that when the round was fired it created an equal pressure out the back of the rifle of that coming out of the front. So the case would disintegrate and exit through the back and the pre rifled round would fly smoothly out of the barrel a design which worked unbelievably well and enabled a 2-man team to carry the weapon and ammo.
However, the M18 was slowly replaced as lack of maintaince would mean that the recoilless affect would slowly diminish. Such as poor valves meant the pressures were no longer equal thus creating major problems as you could imagine.
This M18 57mm Recoilless Rifle is All WW2 Dated and in overall excellent condition. It's complete with a telescopic sight although slightly damaged can still be seen though clearly as photographed.
